[Highland Park] Vermiculture (Worm Composting) Class - 6 spaces left!

Do you live in an apartment and wish you had a way to compost? Or do you have a beautiful garden and wish you could fertilize it for free? Garfield Community Farm is hosting a vermicomposting (worm composting) class on Saturday, July 28 from 9 AM-10:30 AM at the corner of Cornwall and Wicklow Streets in Garfield Heights. Learn how vermiculture is an easy and low maintenance way to compost and create high quality fertilizer. “But won’t it smell?” Nope, not if you’re doing it right.“Won’t the worms escape?” Worms prefer the warm, dark, damp bin and won’t make a run for it.“I have other questions!” Sure thing, come out to this class and we’ll talk about it. Required materials (please bring with you to the class as these items are not provided):- A worm bin (if you’re buying something new, look in the “storage bins” section of the store). Ideal size is approximately 18 inches wide, 16 inches long, and 16 inches deep. You can go larger than this, but not significantly smaller. Must have a lid.- Shredded newspaper. Can be shredded by hand, with an approximate width of 1 inch. Cross cut paper shredding is not recommended. Please note: newsprint only. No shredded junk mail (the paper is different). Optional item:- Rubber gloves. You will be touching worms and their castings. Hand washing facilities will be available. Provided materials:- Worms!
