[Highland Park] EI to collect printer cartridges for Earth Day
From 11:30 AM until 2:30 PM, Agents of Change Recycling will collect phone books, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, and cardboard. In addition, old cell phones can be recycled to benefit the Women¹s Center and Shelter of Pittsburgh; printer cartridges will benefit Education Innovations. Animal Friends will have two- and four-legged representatives on hand, collecting gently used blankets and towels for the shelter animals. [If you cannot make it to the activity described below, drop off your printer cartridges at 914 Heberton Street.] Shadyside Celebrates ³Earth Day on Walnut² Neighborhood Event Benefits the Earth and the Community] Shadyside, PA...The Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh will be celebrating "Earth Day on Walnut" on Saturday, April 23, 2005. Centered around the Walnut Street shopping corridor, the event will feature earth-friendly exhibits, a neighborhood clean-up, a live broadcast of WPTT Radio¹s ³Garden Talk with Jane Nugent,² a drive-up recycling area, a happy hour benefit for Pennsylvania Resources Council, and more. Now in its third year, Earth Day on Walnut 2005 is sponsored by the Shadyside Chamber of Commerce and Agents of Change Recycling. The event provides a fun and informative day for the community, while encouraging respect for the Earth. The neighborhood clean-up will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 AM, and volunteers are needed and welcome. Interested parties should meet at Cappy¹s Cafe at 7AM on Walnut Street for breakfast and cleaning information. Volunteers will assemble into teams and be eligible for prizes. dirt. Jane Nugent of WPTT Radio 1360 will broadcast her popular ³Garden Talk with Jane Nugent² live from the Walnut Street parklet from 12:30 until 2:00. The gardening diva will be discussing composting and other urban gardening topics. Finally, to wrap up the day, many area restaurants and bars will hold a Happy Earth Happy Hour from 4 to 7 PM. Part of the proceeds will be donated to Pennsylvania Resources Council, one of the oldest non-profit environmental groups in the state.
