The St. Andrew's "First Thursday Evensong" on December 3rd at 8 p.m. observes the Feast of Nicolaus of Myra, that Bishop of the Church in a port city of ancient Asia Minor, modern Turkey, Patron of Sailors--and renowned for his passion for Trinitarian orthodoxy in a theologically contentious era and for his kindness and generosity, especially with devotion to the poor. The St. Andrew's Parish Choir will sing the William Harris Evening Service in A Major and the Charles Wood anthem "O Thou the Central Orb." A recital will follow, featuring Mezzo-soprano Candice Shaughnessy, and then we are all invited to join in a seasonally festive reception in Brooks Hall. Advent blessings! Bruce Robison
A bit more about the recital following the 8 p.m. St. Nicholas service tomorrow evening (as below), December3. Candice Shaughnessy--Director of Music Ministry at Faith United Methodist Church, in Fox Chapel, and highly-regarded soloist in regional and national opera and musical theater, will be singing a program entitled "The Spirituals of Harry T. Burleigh." She has a website: <http://www.candiceshaughnessy.com/> The program will be accompanied by pianist Jenifer Johnson, who regularly performs with the Tuesday Musical Club of Pittsburgh and as a member of the St. Andrew's Choir and music program. Again, a wonderful service for the season, and a great recital to follow. All welcome!
