[Highland Park] Green Burial Pittsburgh
Hi neighbors, I on the board of Green Burial Pittsburgh. Please consider the following: Green Burial Pittsburgh (GBP) plans to "establish and operate woodland or meadowland green burial or natural burial cemeteries in or near Pittsburgh that offer natural burial exclusively. Green burial or natural burial means no toxic chemical embalming fluids or concrete burial vaults or grave liners are used. Caskets or shrouds are made of biodegradable and renewable materials. The body is buried less deeply than in traditional burial, so it nourishes plant growth as it decomposes. Grave markers are either native stones, laid flat on the ground, or native plants such as shrubs or trees. GBP is currently in the "start-up" phase and needs funding for the acquisition of real property and organizational costs. Specifically, GBP is negotiating with several interested land-owners in the southwestern Pennsylvania region for the acquisition or use of that land for a legal burial site. You can learn more about green burial and GBP at: www.greenburialpittsburgh.org If possible, please make a tax-deductible contribution by sending a check, made out to Funeral Consumers Alliance of Western Pennsylvania (or FCAWP) to Green Burial Pittsburgh Conservancy, 1713 Hunnell Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. (Note: The FCAWP has agreed to serve as our fiscal sponsor until our federal tax-exempt status is finalized.) Or, you can contribute online at: http://www.greenburialpittsburgh.org/Donate.html Contributions of any amount will be helpful at this early stage - all donations are greatly appreciated and will be effectively used. Warmly, your neighbor, Rick Watling
