To celebrate the coming of spring, I've added photos of "Salsa in the Park" from 2 years ago to the Highland Park web site: <http://www.highlandparkpa.com/20010520-salsa.htm> If you'd like to see more events like this, consider joining one of the committees in the Highland Park Community Club: <http://www.highlandparkpa.com/org/hpcc/> In the mean time, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy has a series of fascinating lunch-time topics on Tuesdays at noon at the Schenley Park Visitor Center. (I know--it's not *Highland Park* :-) A few weeks ago there was a talk about the adverse effects of deer overpopulation on forested environments. Yes, we have deer in Highland Park too, mostly on the slope between Reservoir Drive and Washington Boulevard. Mary Beth Steisslinger of the Parks Conservancy says you can often see them in the early morning or late evening on the grass fields around the velodrome, and that in some areas on those slopes, there is no understory whatsoever because of the deer. <http://www.pittsburghparks.org/> Rudy
