The Learning Club in Highland Park, a project of Education Innovations, Inc., is working diligently to bring new, interesting, and quality educational programs to Highland Park. As a community-oriented non-profit organization, we will be taking time each month to share our accomplishments, and invite you to participate in our community's educational life. In our update, we will let you know about upcoming events at The Club, classes being offered, and new services being provided to the neighborhood. New at Education Innovations, Inc. and The Learning Club in Highland Park: * We are officially a non-profit organization! We received notice from the IRS that, based on our mission, we are classified as a charitable organization, otherwise known as a 501(c)(3) organization. This means that your gifts to us are tax-deductible. Your donation as small as $10 will be combined with the generosity of others in the community to improve our children's learning experiences in the neighborhood. It will also allow us to develop a robust fund-raising campaign for improving the educational opportunities here in our neighborhood. We are starting our fund-raising efforts with a golf outing. See information below. * Help your children jump-start their brains and get ready for back-to-school thinking during our August Learning Club. We have Learning Clubs from August 18 to August 22 for upper elementary to middle school students. We are offering two clubs: The 1600 Club and the Book Club. The 1600 club is designed to introduce concepts covered in the SAT through fun activities such as analogies, vocabulary building through Scrabble, brainteasers, and puzzles. The 1600 Club will meet each morning from 9:00AM until 12:00PM. The Book Club is designed to get your child back into the swing of school and the habit of reading with graphic novel by Avi. This club will meet each afternoon from 1:00PM until 4:00PM. The cost of each session is $90 (multiple clubs and sibling discounts are $80 per club). * We are hosting a golf outing on October 3rd at Hillcrest Country Club in Lower Burrell. This fund-raising event will allow us to develop the Fulton Project, to design learning opportunities that match the needs of the community, and to forge collaborations with other educational and human services organizations for improving the educational climate of the East End. The Fulton Project is our plan to bring much needed resources to Fulton Academy, our local public elementary school. Currently, the project includes the designing of a 20-week economics/financial literacy program for 4th and 5th graders, an intensive summer literacy project for all 2nd graders, and a human chess game at the park.
