This year’s event will feature keynote speaker, social justice writer/poet Robyn Lynn Harris who tells stories that “…are intricately woven into the tapestry of history, culture, identity, spirituality, joy, grief and the ability to persevere in spite of what trials may come.” She will be reading excerpts from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” and reflect through her own work what has changed and what hasn’t as a result of the Civil Rights Movement. Our aim for the event is that these words will inspire everyone in attendance to reflect on the meaning of the day and to express themselves through creative and artistic outlets. We will also offer opportunities for guests to share with one another in discussion, as well as arm themselves with new resources for the fight to end racism. Since 2001, Union Project has been using the arts to bridge gaps between communities. Join us and continue the work Dr. King started decades ago - creating communities that come together to celebrate diversity and acceptance.
