Eliza, I ran into this very problem last year. The insurance would have been almost as much as the principal and interest! I ended up with Tod Aronson at E.R. Munro, (412) 281-0673. I don't remember the details, but he found a good program that insured us for more than the purchase price, but a lot less than their calculated replacement cost our house.
