[Highland Park] volunteering
Last year during the blizzard, I started volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels once a week when I became aware that they needed people with four wheel drive vehicles to get through the snow that was piled on the streets for the month of February. My 2 1/2 hours every Friday morning have been extremely rewarding. One of the folks on my route is a 101 year old Scottish woman who I love to visit and can't wait to talk to every week. That aside, Meals on Wheels for our neighborhood is run from Stephen Foster Center in Lawrenceville by the Catholic Youth Association. As many of their volunteers are seniors, this time of year, with all the snow, they have a hard time getting out and the center always needs more help. You can deliver meals or shovel snow, it matters not. If you have a little time to give, call Gretchen Fay or Maureen at 412-621-3342 and let them know. http://www.catholicyouthassociation.com/ If you're a senior looking for some fun things to do in your spare time, they also hold a number of classes there, including dance and organize lots if great field trips.
