[Highland Park] Please respect driveways on N. Saint Clair!
This evening, my wife and I arrived home at 1126 N. Saint Clair to discover an unfamiliar car completely blocking our driveway. After asking neighbors and checking at the nearby restaurants, I called the police. The responding officer ran the plates and found that the car was registered on a nearby block. He was able to contact the owner, who promptly removed it. We were glad the situation was resolved quickly without anyone being towed or ticketed; however, I was thunderstruck to learn to learn that the driver had not realized she was blocking an actual driveway. As my neighbors have recounted similar incidents, I think perhaps there has been an unfortunate misconception that the driveways on our block aren't actually in use. So please be aware that the driveways on the east (even) side of N. Saint Clair between Hampton and Bryant are real. We actually do use them. (We don't have parking behind our houses--Albree Way doesn't serve any garages.) It's essential that we be able to use our driveways so that there is enough street parking for residents (especially those on the west side of our street who have street parking only) as well as some extra for guests, restaurant patrons, churchgoers, school visitors, etc. Please, please don't block our driveways! Thanks, Abe Delnore -- Abe Delnore
This has been an ongoing problem on Hampton across from the church. We have the only driveway on the block and people block it frequently and when they return or are located they often say "It was the only place to park." Neighbors and visitors: It's not a place to park. It's our place to park or access our garage.
