Dear Neighbors, We recently looked into renting a 5 x 5 storage unit in the area and were told that we were legally required to purchase liability insurance on the property which we were storing. And, of course, our regular property insurance did not legally qualify; we had to purchase insurance through the storage company at rates of between $12 to $17 per month! It felt like a scam so I did not rent at either CubeStorage nor at Compass which both told me this story. We will be renting, for a much lower monthly cost and without the fraudulent insurance requirement, from Weleski Storage in Natrona Heights. The staff at Weleski told me, and my property insurance agent confirmed, that there is no Pennsylvania legal requirement to purchase liability insurance through the storage facility nor even to have liability insurance at all on items in a storage facility. Isn't that part of what we are paying for when we pay such crazy prices to these places? I am sending a complaint about this fraudulent practice to the PA Attorney General.
