[Highland Park] Seeking Returned Peace Corps Volunteer/Missionary to talk with Girl Scouts
Dear Neighbors, Yes, here I am again! The Jr. Girl Scouts are going to be participating in World Thinking Day on April 20 at the Islamic Center. Officially the date is Feb. 22, but we're celebrating at a different time. In preparation for this, we need to do a specific activity from a list of options. - http://www.girlscouts.org/who_we_are/global/world_thinking_day/juniors_wtd.a... Invite a returned Returned Peace Corps Volunteer <http://www.peacecorps.gov/wws/speakersmatch/>to speak to your group about how the natural environment impacts people’s lives in the country where she/he served and compare her/his experiences with your own community. (See Peace Corps Speakers Tips Sheet<http://www.girlscouts.org/who_we_are/global/peace_corps_tip_sheet.pdf> ).- The theme this year is "We can save our planet." I thought I'd reach out into the Highland Park Community to see if we have anyone who has served in a country with environmental issues, such as drought, famine, deforestation, flood. All these events can be exacerbated by our impact on the environment. Thoughts of Ethiopia, Mali, Haiti Pulau, etc. come to mind. I don't have an exact date yet. If you would like to share your experience with a super group of girls, ages 9-11, please email me. We meet at St. Andrew's Church on Hampton St. Thank you, Joan Soulliere Leader, Troop 54281
