[Highland Park] St. Marathon Weekend @ St. Andrew's
It's "St. Marathon Weekend" once again in Pittsburgh, and as always we here in Highland Park and at St. Andrew's are tucked just inside the northern edge of the 26.2 mile route (which runs up North Highland Avenue from East Liberty Blvd., then scoots down Bryant Street, takes a left on Negley Avenue, and streams on down toward Baum Blvd. and out through Bloomfield, etc.). We love the event, which is a great asset for the City and region, but we also need to find our work-arounds along the way. For those who may be running in the Marathon, Half-Marathon, Relay, etc., or who may be volunteering for the morning, or who may want to be cheering friends and family--or who may simply wish to avoid the traffic, we schedule at St. Andrew's a simple 5 p.m. service on Saturday evening, May 5th, in the St. Andrew's Chapel. All welcome indeed. On Marathon Sunday morning, May 6, services continue on our usual schedule, 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Folks "within the route" here in Highland Park may find their way comfortably by staying within. Folks traveling from beyond the loop may get near by traveling through Highland Park and then parking cars above Bryant Street and crossing safely, then walking the block to the Church. You will also want to park "outside" the North Highland and North Negley Avenue boundaries. Cars brought in early and left inside the route are often "stranded" until the running traffic thins out, early afternoon. First Corinthians 9: Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. Have a great weekend!
