The State Treasury holds unclaimed property on behalf of residents, including many types of payments and rebates, credit balances, dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks that are held by the state in trust. There is an easy way to determine if the state is holding money on your behalf. Visit the Bureau of Unclaimed Property - Search Portal <https://unclaimedproperty.patreasury.gov/en/Property/SearchIndex>. The PA Money Match Law, passed unanimously last year, allows the State Treasury to automatically return unclaimed property valued at $500 or less to a single owner. Eligible property owners will receive a letter to confirm their address and a check about 45 days later. The average claim is $1,600. Unclaimed properties worth over $500 or with multiple owners won't be returned automatically. Overall, PA Treasury aims to return over $4.5 billion in unclaimed property, including dormant accounts, uncashed checks, rebates, and insurance payments.
