In the East Liberty / Highland Park section there is a carjacking listed. The suspects were later caught, which can be read about at the very bottom of this email in Notable Arrests. Although officers are investigating, actively patrolling the zone, and attempting to stop these crimes from occurring, we need YOUR help. Please remember to take all valuables with you and lock your vehicle. This is a crime of opportunity. When a thief comes upon a locked vehicle or a vehicle with no items of value in plain sight, they often move on to the next car. Most of our thefts from cars occur with vehicles that were left unlocked. So please...remember to lock your doors! Homewood / East Hills 7/21/18 Burglary - 2200 block Wilner Drive. A resident reported that a spare key that they kept hidden outside was used to access their residence. Money was taken. (139469) 7/24/18 Theft from Vehicle – North Homewood Street & Kelly Street, 5:52 AM. An employee parked their work vehicle and was making several trips back and forth between their vehicle and job site when their wallet was taken from the vehicle. (141027) 7/24/18 Aggravated Assault / Burglary – 7330 Stranahan Street, 6:30 AM. Officers responded to assist a female caller who stated that a known male broke into her home, assaulted her child, and threatened her with firearms. The female was able to escape with her child and called for help. Officers went to the residence and observed a male matching the suspect description, who went back inside the residence. Officers then surrounded the house and attempted to make contact with the suspect. Due to the threat of weapons and propensity for violence, officers requested assistance from PGH SWAT. Negotiators soon arrived on scene along with tactical officers. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect but were unable. After a lengthy period of time, SWAT was finally able to enter the house to search for the suspect, but he had escaped. Firearms were found in the home. Detectives continue to investigate this case. (141037) 7/25/18 Burglary / Aggravated Assault – 200 block Hansel Avenue. Victims stated that an unknown male broke into their home and assaulted them. The victim had a head injury that required stitches. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a white mask, dressed in all black. (141679) 7/26/18 Stolen Car – 7000 block Hamilton Avenue. The vehicle owner stated that they left their car running when going into a business, and when they returned it was gone. The vehicle is described as a 2017 red Honda Accord 4-door sedan (PA Plate DV-32841) This is a disabled veteran license plate. (142815). 7/26/18 Burglary – 200 block Hansel Avenue. Someone entered a locked residence and stole gaming systems. (142735) 7/26/18 Burglary – 7000 block Fielding Way. A homeowner reported opening second story windows, and while the homeowner was downstairs, an unknown person entered the second floor through the windows and stole cash. (143104) Larimer / Lincoln-Lemington 7/20/18 Theft from Vehicle – 6100 block Carver Street. The victim stated that a wallet was taken from their possibly unlocked vehicle. (139256) Bloomfield / Garfield / Friendship 7/22/18 Theft from Vehicle – 4600 block Torley Street. A vehicle owner stated that they parked their vehicle and may have inadvertently left the doors unlocked. When they returned the next day, their door was ajar, and their car had been ransacked. $50.00 in rolled change was stolen. (140148) 7/22/18 Theft from Vehicle – 5100 block Brown Way. Someone entered an unlocked vehicle and took change and house keys. (140110) 7/24/18 Burglary – 4800 block Schenley Drive. The door to a residence that was under construction was kicked-in and tools were taken. A suspect was observed walking away from the area with tools. The suspect is described as a black male, stocky build, approximately 5’8” tall and 220 lbs. (141046) 7/25/18 House Struck by Gunfire – 300 block N. Fairmount Street. The victim reported that someone rang their doorbell, then fired four shots through the front door. There were multiple people home at the time, but luckily no one was struck by the gunfire. (142325) 7/26/18 Theft from Vehicle – 4400 block Howley Street. The victim stated that they parked their car overnight, and when they returned in the morning, approximately $20.00 and miscellaneous cards were stolen. The victim said that their doors were locked. There was no apparent damage to the vehicle. (142585) East Liberty / Highland Park 7/23/18 Carjacking - 400 North Highland Avenue, 8:10 PM. The victim reported that while leaving a store, they were approached in the parking lot by three males. One of the suspects displayed a handgun and demanded the victim's car keys. The other two males went through the victim’s pockets, taking their car keys. The three males then fled in the victim’s vehicle, a 2013 gray Toyota Prius (PA Plate KFZ-1133). The suspects were described as a black male 6’1” tall, 180lbs, 20 to 25 years old with 1-2 inch braids with a dark gray jacket and a black handgun. The second suspect was described as a black male 5’6” tall, 170-180 lbs, with a short haircut and a dark coat. The third suspect was a black male, 5’9” tall, wearing all dark clothing. (140804) 7/24/18 Stolen Car – 5400 block Wellsley Avenue. The victim reported that he parked his 2008 white Ford F-150 (PA Plate ZGZ-4097) and when he returned to get his vehicle, it was gone. The victim said that his doors were locked and he has the only set of keys. (140454) 7/24/18 Theft from Vehicle – 1100 block King Avenue. The victim reported that their vehicle may have been left unlocked, was ransacked, and registration paperwork was stolen. (142040) 7/24/18 Theft from Vehicle – 1400 block Hawthorne Street. Officers were flagged-down for a purse found in the street. When attempting to return the purse to its owner, they stated that they left their purse in their vehicle overnight, and it was discovered that the vehicle had been entered through a door that does not lock. (142136) 7/25/18 Aggravated Assault – Broad Street & Pennley Place. The victim reported that they were injured during a fight at the basketball courts. A known suspect got into an altercation with the victim, and knocked the victim to the ground where a group began kicking, punching, and stomping the victim while they were on the ground. The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition. (142330) 7/25/18 Stolen Car - 1000 block King Avenue. A vehicle was reportedly stolen after being left in the victim’s driveway overnight. The victim believes that they may have left the vehicle unlocked and the keys indise The vehicle is described as a 2009 green Chevrolet Cobalt, (PA Plate DRC-3210). (141944) 7/28/18 Burglary – 5800 block Rippey Street – An unknown suspect entered a residence through an unlocked window and stole electronics and linens. (144467) 7/26/18 Theft from Vehicle – 100 block Schenly Manor Drive. Someone entered a locked vehicle parked in a driveway and stole a firearm and jewelry. (143338) Morningside / Stanton Heights / Waterworks 7/24/18 Theft from Vehicle – 1600 block Trinity Street. A vehicle owner stated that someone went through their possibly unlocked vehicle, leaving personal items and clothing in the roadway and leaving the vehicle door ajar. The victim was unsure if anything was taken (142212) 7/25/18 Theft from Vehicle – 1000 block Oranmore Street. The victim reported that their vehicle was ransacked overnight and they are unsure what exactly is missing. (141931) 7/25/18 Stolen Car – 1700 block Duffield Street. The victim reported that they parked their 2006 blue Hyundai Sonata (PA Plate GXK-8653) in their driveway overnight, and when they came out in the morning it was missing. The victim may have left the doors unlocked and a spare key inside. (142640) 7/25/18 Theft from Vehicle – 1400 block Simona Drive. The victim’s locked vehicle was ransacked and items were disturbed, but it is unsure what if anything was stolen (142616) 7/25/18 Theft from Vehicle – 900 block Oranmore Street. The victim stated that overnight, approximately $60.00 and a parking pass were stolen from their locked vehicle, which was parked in their driveway (142557) 7/25/18 Theft from Vehicle – 1100 block King Avenue. The victim stated that their wallet was stolen from their vehicle overnight. When the victim contacted their banks to cancel their cards, it was discovered that a small charge was placed onto the card at a fast food restaurant overnight as well. 7/26/18 Theft from Vehicle – 1600 block Duffield Street. A vehicle that was parked at a residence was entered and ransacked. The owner was unsure what was missing. Officers observed that two of the current occupants matched the description of the carjackers. Officers initiated a traffic stop, and several of the occupants immediately fled from the vehicle. Officers were able to locate and catch the suspects, and they were taken into into custody, as well as a juvenile suspect.
