RE: [Highland Park] car window smashed in park
Hello Highland Park, I have the report from Paola's friend regarding their car being broken into at Highland Park. I didn't find a lot of reports, but the Zoo Parking Lot seems to be a virtual shopping mall for criminals. The majority of my thefts in Zone Five area are "Thefts from Vehicles." I repeatedly warn people to please secure their items in their trunks, if you MUST carry them in your car. Items stolen typically include purses, briefcases, cd's, wallets, cell phones, money, laptops, clothing, backpacks, ect. Normally, these items are left in the open, sitting on the front seats. (And in case you were wondering, thieves are not deterred by the jacket, blanket or towel you cover your items with...that's kind of like a red flag that something really valuable is hiding under it.) FYI: Highland Park and Bloomfield also lead Zone Five in "Thefts from Vehicles" and "Thefts of Vehicles." As the weather gets a little warmer, please don't start your cars, turn on the air, and run back inside. (Hopefully with skyrocketing gas prices people want be tempted to follow that practice this summer.) RaShall M. They smashed a window and took a bag (of books on tape). She was parked near the pedestrian underpass before the playground. There were other piles of broken glass nearby, so it may be best to park beyond the playground so you can see your car. I can attest to this! Our car was broken into a month ago, on Stanton Avenue. My wife had left her coat in the car, I guess someone thought there was something valuable underneath because it resulted in a broken window and a missing coat. Gregory
