RE: [Highland Park] answer to red Xs
Hi Valerie and Highland Park residents, I am going to forward this information to Officer Michael Gay- Zone 5's Community Policing Officer. Please don't be afraid to call and report occurrences like these to the police or fill out a silent complaint form. There could already be an investigation going on and this could be valuable information in that case. When you see anything out of the ordinary, I encourage you to report it. Take note of the time of day that this activity is generally occurring - that way, if it happens at a specific time, the police can take extra caution and make sure that they are patrolling the area at that time. Thanks, Christie Christie Berger Community Outreach Coordinator Department of Neighborhood Initiatives Office of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl 512 City-County Building 414 Grant Street Pittsburgh, PA 15219 412.255.8680 christine.berger@city.pittsburgh.pa.us -----Original Message----- From: Valerie Sweeney [mailto:valeriecsweeney@comcast.net] Sent: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 4:29 PM To: Highland Park Neighborhood Subject: [Highland Park] answer to red Xs A friend who lives on Elgin was approached by the APX saleman, and she turned him down (she had a very similar encounter to mine - very pushy, inappropriate questions, etc.). She watched him chalk a red X on her sidewalk. She said to him, Why are you marking my sidewalk? He replied that it was NOT her sidewalk, it was public property. To her credit, she kept her cool, and questioned him again, and he said he was marking her house so his colleagues would not bother her. There's the answer. What I intend to do with that info I am not sure. The mark on the sidewalk may be public property but it indicates MY house and MY property, and I still don't like it. If I have to keep my walk shoveled in winter and cleared of debris in summer, I think I have some say in what else happens there. Thanks for all your responses and support. Apparently the sales guy is aware of this listserv, or at least that the neighborhood is aware of his company's sales tactics. Maye they'll get fed up and leave HP. One can hope...
