[Highland Park] two incidents: daytime prowling
Neighbors, I am reporting two incidents of daytime prowling in the last block (north end) of King Avenue. second incident - Wednesday, September 1: At about 1:30 in the afternoon today, our next-door neighbor (to the south) observed a young man walking around our house, and around the two houses just north of us on the block. After he left and was down the street, he turned around and she waved at him - to let him know that she had seen him. She said, he then disappeared over the hill. first incident - Sunday, August 15: We were expecting our neighbors to visit us at 3:00 in the afternoon. Our front door was open. At 2:50 our doorbell rang, and my mother went to answer the door. There was nobody there, and I (in the kitchen) heard someone scrambling down the path outside the window - I called out this information to my mother, who had gone out onto the porch. I went to the window on the other side of the house and saw a young man with a backpack calmly walking down Cordova Road. I then went to the front porch. Our neighbor had arrived, and said that she had seen the young man ringing our doorbell; when he saw her looking at him, he jumped over our porch railing [this is what I heard from the kitchen] and must have walked through our back yard and exited onto Cordova. The young man had left his bicycle on our sidewalk. Another man, unknown to us, told us from across the street that "kids were always throwing stolen things into his yard." He took the bicycle and leaned it against a pole across the street. The bicycle disappeared shortly afterward. When our neighbors were visiting, we learned that they had observed this young man walking up and down, four times back and forth, looking at our house and at the two houses just north of us on the block. One of the neighbors went out of her house and asked him, "What do you want?" He told her that he was lost. ..................... Cynthia Bell September 1, 2010
