This in from our friend and good neighbor PENZEYS in the STRIP...free ORANGE CURRY👍 Wear Orange Weekend starts today. Through Sunday, if you have orange, wear it to raise awareness for the heartbreak and pain gun violence is bringing to our communities and to our country. JOIN US IN PITTSBURGH TOMORROW JUNE 2 - A Day of Action Market Square, 12-2pm Wear Orange organizer Everytown for Gun Safety reached out to us asking this year if Penzeys could do something to help raise awareness this weekend. We seem to have success at raising awareness when we combine a good idea with a free item. Getting everyone to think about the devastation gun violence leaves in its wake clearly is a good idea. With us finally catching up from our Soul box offer and still digging out from our last event bringing attention to the Russia probe being real and necessary*, we don’t have a lot to offer, but a bit of luck did leave us with 1/4-cups of our Orange Penzeys Curry Powder, so we are going with that. You may recall our past Rainbow Spice offers in support of marriage equality. Penzeys Curry earned its place in our Rainbow by being really good. Maybe saying it’s the Curry everyone loves is a bit of an overstatement, but it does not fall short by much. If you are new to Curry, start with a light sprinkling on your favorite foods. Potatoes, eggs, fish, chicken, cauliflower and carrots are great places to give this tasty blend a try. If you are already a fan of Curry, go wild, it really is that good. To get your flat-out free $4.29 value 1/4-cup Penzeys Curry, just show this email or the coupon above in one of our stores. Online at penzeys.com, the 1/4-cup Penzeys Curry is still free, but the usual shipping and handling options will apply. To get yours when checking out, just enter 12931C in the apply code box. There’s no need to place the Curry in your basket, the code does that for you automatically.. In the email from Everytown for Gun Safety encouraging us to participate, they said: “Penzeys is now known for your powerful political stances and standing up for marginalized communities.” Seems we’re being recognized more and more which is nice, but I was struck by this notion of those trying to recover in the aftermath of gun violence being marginalized. With there now being more guns than people in America, it’s easy to see everything about guns in this country being mainstream. But with the story of those left hurt and in need of healing after guns are put to use so at odds with the myths our country holds about guns, it’s like those left needing kindness and compassion instead get victimized for a second time. At the heart of cooking is the belief in taking care of those in need. Cooking has always set our humanity in motion. We cook because we care about each other. But there is something very uncaring in the way we as a country treat those who pay the price for our fascination with guns. We want to believe guns are cool, guns make us safe, guns put us in control. None of this is true. To pull the trigger of a gun is to lose all control of what happens next. Guns are a cancer that all too many of us willingly invite into our homes. The time has come for us to be honest about what guns do. Please feel free to forward this email, especially to those with one of our stores in their area where the Curry is flat-out free. This Wear Orange idea is a good one that deserves to grow. Word of mouth is how this happens. Please let your voice be heard. Diane Matway - on the run with my iPhone Diane Matway - on the run with my iPhone
