Mosquito Spray Planned in Morningside/Highland Park 8/11/15
Several mosquito samples recently collected in the Morningside and Highland Park areas of the City of Pittsburgh have tested positive for West Nile virus. In response, Allegheny County Health Department’s West Nile Virus Control Program (BU 1224) will be conducting a truck-mounted, Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray event on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 to decrease mosquito populations and reduce the risk of virus transmission. The event will take place between 8:00pm and 10:00pm and will focus on the entire Morningside neighborhood and residential areas adjacent to Highland Park. In case of inclement weather, the rain date will be Wednesday, August 12. The pesticide being applied is Zenivex and is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. Zenivex has a very low toxicity profile to mammals and will have negligible impact to non-target insects and the environment. It will be released at just 1.5 - 3 ounces per acre. The MSDS sheet and label for Zenivex are attached to this email along with the PEMA notification form. For further information about WNV in Pennsylvania, go to www.westnile.state.pa.us.
