Police have identified the victim as Edward Baur, of Sharpsburg. The shooting happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday and the victim died just before 2 a.m. in the hospital. According to their preliminary investigation, police say they believe that Baur was possibly shot at the intersection of Mellon Street and Wellesley Street. Authorities say police officers heard multiple shots fired while in the area of Mellon Street and Stanton Avenue and then saw a car traveling along Mellon Street. The vehicle came to a stop near Janero Street where police say Baur yelled for help. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for gunshot wounds to his right shoulder and left side and later died after undergoing surgery. Also, police say a child was found unharmed in the back seat of the vehicle. He was placed in the care of his mother. Investigators say no arrests have been made and anyone with information is being asked to call police at 412-323-7161.
