[Highland Park] Weekly Walks in the Woods
This evening I participated in the Weekly Walk in the Woods sponsored by Venture Outdoors (formerly Western Pennsylvania Field Institute) and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. We walked for about 2 hours total (including a walk around the reservoir at the end), identifying plants, park features, and history as we went. After the walk, some of those who participated ended up at Enrico's Tazza d'Oro. Every third Wednesday during the summer the walk starts in Highland Park at the North Highland Avenue entrance at 6:30 pm. The walk is free, worthwhile, and not too difficult--there are some steep steps and some mud, but most of it is pretty easy. There are walks in the other City parks as well--one each week. In months which have 5 weeks, a walk is scheduled at Washington's Landing on that last Wednesday of the month. See the Venture Outdoors web site for the schedule: <http://www.ventureoutdoors.org/> Rudy
