Yesterday a dog was found wandering in Morningside - a St. Bernard, brown and white, male, no collar. The dog has several minor scrapes on legs and paws but no other visible injuries, but it could not walk or even get up from a sitting position. Control of its hind legs was not good and breathing was rapid and shallow. Several residents tried to help the dog get up, gave it water and food. The dog was friendly and allowed itself to be handled, but was not in good condition and may have been wandering for several days before collapsing. Several people said they had seen it in the neighborhood recently, but no one knew where it lived. The dog was taken to Animal Friends on Hamilton Ave. yesterday afternoon.
