Highland Park - upcoming closure of Reservoir Drive
The park has seen a significant increase in use as people respond to the restrictions in place to address the Covid-19 pandemic. To provide more space for walkers and cyclists so that they can be safe on the road and maintain social distancing, the city will be closing Reservoir Drive, likely beginning June 10th. The HPCC participated in a meeting with City Planning, Public Works, PWSA, DOMI, Zone 5 (Pgh PD), the PPC, and Bike Pittsburgh to develop a plan that would best meet the needs of the park users while accommodating Public Works, PWSA, and emergency vehicles. There will be a formal announcement and map released soon, but I wanted to provide this update so that people are aware that these changes will be going into effect. There is a draft map attached. The main park entrance on Highland Ave. will be converted to a small traffic roundabout open for drop-offs only; no parking will be allowed here. Farmhouse Drive to Reservoir Drive will be open only to allow access for vehicles with handicapped parking placards to park in the lot off the intersection of Reservoir Drive and Farmhouse Drive; no parking will be allowed on that section of Farmhouse Drive. No street parking will be allowed on Bunker Hill Extension along the park. The various city agencies will be putting up physical barriers and signage, and restriping the road. Zone 5 will be assisting with traffic and parking enforcement when the changes initially go into effect. -- *Highland Park Community Council* Visit our website by clicking here. <https://hpccpgh.org/>
