[Highland Park] All Saints at St. Andrew's
Four a number of years now the ancient Christian Festival of All Saints has been, at St. Andrew's in Highland Park, the center of a great celebration of music--and truly a highlight for both the parish and the community. Mark calendars now! Tell your friends! The Music Festival begins this year on All Saints Day itself, Tuesday Evening, November 1, when at 8 p.m. Thomas Octave, Director of Choral Music at St. Vincent's College in Latrobe, will conduct the All Saints Festival Chorus in a musical service, "Lessons and Carols for All Saints." The Festival continues on Thursday evening, November 3rd, also at 8 p.m., when the Choristers of St. Andrew's Church, under the direction of Matthew Derby, will sing a service of Choral Evensong. The St. Andrew's Choristers are children and young people who participate in a program of tradition musical training under the direction of the Royal School of Church Music. The program is always open to new youth participants. Come and hear them--and feel free to speak to Mr. Derby if you know a young person who might be interested. On Friday evening, November 4, at 8 p.m., pianist Nathan Carterette and cellist Rowena Gutana will present an "All-Bach" recital program, including the Goldberg Variations, and the Unaccompanied Suite for Cello. All these evening programs include a festive dessert reception, and all are welcome. The All Saints Festival concludes on All Saints Sunday, November 6, at 11 a.m., when St. Andrew's Parish Choir, under the direction again of Tom Octave, will be joined by the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra in a Choral Service of the Holy Communion, with F.J. Schubert's Mass in G Major sung in the context of the liturgy. Again, all welcome! Bruce Robison http://www.standrewspgh.org http://revbmrobison.blogspot.com/
