[Highland Park] Art Auction for Heather Arnet, School Board Candidate, Friday 13th
The Art of Politics: An Art Benefit for Heather Arnet School Board Candidate District 2 (which includes Highland Park) This Friday, April 13th, come to Pavement (3629 Butler Street) in Lawrenceville to bid on fantastic local art for a great cause. The show is one-night-only, from 5-8 PM. Bring your checkbook and your appetite; in addition to great art there will be ample (free) food and drink to satisfy your taste for change. Heather Arnet, who runs the Women and Girls Foundation of Western PA, has been encouraging women in the region to run for office for years. But this year Arnet is taking the plunge herself. With her 4-year-old son Travis poised to enter the public schools, Arnet wants to do something---not only to make Pittsburgh schools better for her son, but to make Pittsburgh schools better for every child in the city. If you live in District 2 you can vote for Heather (Highland Park, Morningside, Stanton Heights, Lawrenceville, Polish Hill, Troy Hill), but even if you don't you can support her candidacy this Friday. You can also learn more about her at her website: (www.voteheather.com). So this Friday come bid on a beautiful lino-print by renowned local artist Laura McLaughlin (http://www.laurajeanmclaughlin.com/), a powerful political cartoon by United Electrical cartoonist Gary Huck (http://www.solidarity.com/hkcartoons/huckpage.html), an ethereal painting by the bio-artist Joana Ricou (http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~jiricou/FemArt/pandora.htm), a painting by local artist Linda Wallen (http://lindawallenstudios.com/paintings/Paintings.html), photographs of the Southside J&L steel mills by Paula Flaherty, whimsical-politico lino-prints by Kathy Newman, posters from the Pittsburgh Sign Project (http://pittsburghsigns.org/), a poignant water color from the pen/brush of teacher/mother/artist, Elizabeth Perry (http://www.elizabethperry.com/woolgathering/), a beautiful glass bowl by Daneal Ferraro (http://www.joopjewelry.com/), a haunting photograph taken by novelist Hilary Masters, and a collection of riveting fiction by CMU authors Jane McCafferty (Thanks for the Music) and Sharon Dilworth (Women Drinking Benedictine). Poet/writer Jim Daniels has also donated a copy of his most recent film project (Dumpster).
