Originally created in collaboration with the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, the Galaxy Ball raises national awareness to the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic offering free and confidential testing through PATF. As young black gay men, co-founders, John Easter and Duane Binion realized the lack of necessary connections to resources, and safe spaces that offered education and entertainment. We have found too often that in this lifestyle our people feel disconnected from society and often give up hope in succeeding in life due to the lack of mentorship, comfortable spaces in which they can be 100% themselves without fear of being bashed or ridiculed, and everyday resources such as HIV/STD prevention and awareness, employment assistances, healthy productive activities to keep fit, and engagement in positive doings. Through our endeavors we have managed to host various events, as well as partner with many local non-profit organizations (such as Pittsburgh Aids Task Force, Garden of Peace Project, Project Silk, Roots Pride, Kelly Strayhorn Theater, and more) .
