Negley Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15206 info@unionproject.org fax: 412-363-1216 NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE Job Title: Union Station Manager Position Reports To: Executive Director Status: Negotiable: Base plus performance bonuses; generous vacation, health and retirement benefits Position Summary: Union Station Café opened in May 2006 following a business plan that had been created through a rigorous and tested process during the formation of the Union Project. The café is a social enterprise of the Union Project, which depends on earned income from the café to support the charitable mission of the organization. Staff includes students from Peabody High School’s Culinary Arts Academy and residents of the surrounding community. Support is provided by the Union Project staff – all back office bookkeeping is provided, along in part with marketing, facilities maintenance and intern supervision. The Café manager is charged with training and motivating employees and ensuring profitability of the enterprise through operations including motivating employees to upsell products, control inventory and cost of goods sold, and maximizing efficiencies of scale and operations. Responsibilities: • MOTIVATE employees to provide exceptional customer service • MAXIMIZE profitability in operations • ACHIEVE $700 – $1,000 total daily sales • Ensure quality, consistent service • Develop and ensure the quality and consistency of product offerings • Enhance café environment • Lead employee team • Change/Implement procedures and policies to reach goals • Responsible for hiring, terminations, training, evaluation of staff Qualifications: Self-starter with strong initiative. DEMONSTRATED SUCCESSFUL, PROFITABLE EXPERIENCE in food service management. Exceptional experience managing people and motivating them to top performance. Strong entrepreneurial spirit. Strong organization, management, problem-solving, and delegation skills. Competent knowledge of necessary MICROS sales software or demonstrated ability to learn. Ability to work independently and cooperatively with other Union Station and Union Project staff and members of the general public. Must be able to work a flexible schedule which may include early morning, evening and weekend hours. Ability to work well with all ages of children and youth. Ability and experience in networking with a diverse constituency. Strong leadership, customer service, interpersonal and professional skills. Personal car/transportation required.
