[Highland Park] [Update.unionproject] This Thursday Night, Community Forum at Union Project
- www.unionproject.org - Attention East End Community Leaders Union Project would like to invite you to a community discussion. Through personal connections and news reports, we are increasingly aware of issues around violence and public safety in the East End. Violence perpetrated by youth is one of the main concerns. We are also increasingly aware of many proactive solution-oriented efforts among grassroots community groups, the new Mayor, Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent and local Police. Our hope is that you will come with ideas, suggestions and guidance for the Union Project, our elected officials and each other about what new efforts can be made to help avert future muggings, robberies, assaults, etc. Most importantly – come to the discussion to help think about how we can collectively cultivate hope, opportunity and investment among neighborhood youth! Please come to the community discussion on Thursday, March 23 at 7:30 PM. RSVP by emailing hilary@unionproject.org or calling 412.363.4550. Deadline extended for clay and stained glass classes We still have several spots open in the majolica class (class #6C4) and the mosaic class (class #6C1). The deadline to register for these classes has been extended to March 24. Please visit www.unionproject.org/programs for more details on the upcoming courses or email Justin@unionproject.org. Almost 2,000 people from across the street and across the country have given almost 20,000 hours toward the Union Project and our innovative efforts to transform a formerly abandoned church into vibrant space for artists, community builders and people of faith. Participants have deepened their investment in the city - and their relationships with fellow volunteers - and in the process, restored a 15,000 square foot historic landmark! Our ongoing operations center around social enterprise and innovation and we depend on the support of volunteers like you to make meaningful contributions to efforts in restoration, children's activities, marketing, community events and more. Check out www.unionproject.org to learn more about us and how you can get involved! For more information, contact Volunteer Coordinator, Duane Hessler, duane@unionproject.org or 412-363-4550 x 5.
