[Highland Park] icky brown water
Hi all - some of you might still be experiencing sludgy residue from the water main break at Farragut and Jackson yesterday. The break has been repaired. According to the head of the water lab, this is how to flush out your pipes: 1. in your basement, find the tap closest to where the water enters the house 2. Turn on that tap and let it run for 5 min at a time, about 4 times in a row. 3. After you do that, turn on all the other taps in your house to flush the pipes that lead to those faucets. 4. If the water doesn't run clean, call the lab and let 'em know - 412 722 7554. We usually don't have to do this when there's a break, because the PWSA workers typically flush the pipes at the site of the break. However, in the winter, this just creates dangerous conditions, so it's up to us to do it inside our own houses. The sludgy residue is from the shakeup that occurs in the lines with the break and subsequent repair. Makes me glad to drink filtered water, I guess. Helen 912 Farragut
