Hi Neighbors and Friends, I hope you were able to get up to the park to see Craig Davis and his combo perform at Reservoir of Jazz last Sunday. This Sunday, Max Leake will be performing, courtesy of the City of Pittsburgh Office of Special Events and the Highland Park Community Council. The weather is looking pleasant, sunny and in the mid-80’s. Bring your lawn chair and and relax in the park. The performance begins at 5pm and concludes at 7pm. Our performer for this Sunday is jazz pianist, composer and arranger Max Leake. Max Leake began his musical training at age six. By the time he was 15, he was working with local Pittsburgh bands and backing up national acts in local supper clubs. At the age of 18, Max was traveling around the country with acts such as the “Ink Spots” and the “Marcels”. Max has been recording, composing, arranging and performing for 35 years with some of the best jazz and blues artists in the world including Roger Humphries, Stanley Turrentine, Rick Margitza, Dwayne Dolphin, Henry Johnson, Rebecca Parris, Billy Price, Joe Negri, Sandy Staley, the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild Orchestra, Tommy Tedesco, David “Fathead” Newman, Don Latarski, Al Dowe and Etta Cox and the Balcony Big Band, just to name a few. He was voted “Best Jazz Keyboardist” in the “In Pittsburgh” music awards in 1989, 1991 and in 1995. They will distribute menus during the show; you can place your order and they will deliver the meal to you. Available this week will be: All-Beef 1/4 lb. Hot Dogs Kielbasa from Henry Grasso’s in Larimer Chips Fruit Cups Cold Water & Turner’s Tea They accept Cash or Credit LaScolla’s Italian Ice, soon to be opening a storefront in Highland Park, will be serving dessert: Italian Ice Frozen Custard and Coffee Custard Floats Brownies with Custard Lemonade, Iced Coffee and Cold water There will be children’s activities provided by the Highland Park Community Council. This week the children will be decorating fans. We will be holding the 50/50 raffle, with the winner announced at the end of the concert. Last week our winner took home $755.50.
