HPGC 7/19 Program: Sustainable Backyard Water Management
*NEXT PROGRAM:* *Saturday, July 19, 2025 • 10:00 - 11 AM* *Sustainable Backyard Water Management - field trip in the Highland Park neighborhood* *Guide: Karen Toole* *Registration due by by Wednesday, 7/16* Water is an increasingly precious, scarce and costly gardening resource. Come learn about the various attempts that fellow Highland Park gardener Karen Toole has made to direct, capture, control and use water on her property to benefit wildlife and fulfill her desire to keep rain water out of our combined sewage system. Learn tips to dramatically reduce your water consumption and lower your water bill, while still nurturing a beautiful and productive garden. Karen holds several art degrees, has designed two municipal parks, earned a Nation Green Infrastructure certificate, was a Penn State Master Gardener, and last year won a Phipps award for a sustainable garden that manages rain water. Karen owns And Flowers, a floral design business, and shares with clients the flowers that she grows on her property while gently teaching them about her sustainability concerns. She has lived and gardened on Bunkerhill Street since 2014, and her home and garden were on this year's Highland Park House Tour. HPGC programs are free to members. Nonmembers are welcome by registering through Eventbrite - a $10 donation is suggested.
