Dear Neighbors, If you are not aware, the city will trash your Christmas tree if it is curb side (even if you put it out on the day they say you can do so for curbside pickup), but you CAN drop your tree at a yard waste lot. However, our Girl Scout troop is once again going to raise funds by collecting Christmas trees in Highland Park, Morningside and East Liberty neighborhoods and delivering them to yard recycling for the city for you. We will be collecting on Saturday, January 6 between 9am and 4pm. We are looking for a donation of $5/tree. A sister troop, Troop 55286, will be picking up trees in Point Breeze and Friendship. Last year, we were able to keep over 75 trees out of the land fill. We are committed to returning to our community, and 10% of this year's cookie and tree recycling funds will also be donated. We are working with the girls to pick an organization. Please let us know via email if you are interested in having us pick up your tree this year. We can accept PayPal ahead of time, as well as cash at the time we pick up the tree. In previous years, some folks left the money in an envelope at a designated spot, so they did not need to be home when we got the trees. We can only get around 75 trees, so let us know asap so you can be sure to have a spot! One way or another, as other neighbors have mentioned, if you do not want us to pick up your tree, please make an effort to recycle it, rather than putting it into the trash. The Post Gazette lists the places that you can take care of recycling your tree on your own: *http://www.post-gazette.com/local/city/2017/12/26/Pittsburgh-holiday-Christm... <http://www.post-gazette.com/local/city/2017/12/26/Pittsburgh-holiday-Christmas-tree-recycling-throwing-away-refuse-pick-up/stories/201712220131>* Additionally, Girl Scouts in the neighborhood will be taking cookie orders in the coming weeks. If you don't already have a source for Girl Scout cookies, we'll be happy to take your order when we get your tree and deliver the cookies in February, when they come in. Hi, everyone, Just a reminder that we will be collecting trees as a fund raiser this coming Saturday, and a sister troop is collecting in Point Breeze and Friendship. If you missed Brian O'Neill's article in the Post Gazette, apparently there is a competition with the North Side. Let's beat them! ( http://www.post-gazette.com/opinion/brian-oneill/2017/12/31/Needling-from-th... ) Thank you to everyone who has responded so far. There will be a direct email to each of you in the next day or two letting you know that I got your messages. If you would like to get your tree picked up from Highland Park, Morningside or East Liberty, reply to this email (gstroop52470@gmail.com). If you need a tree picked up in Point Breeze or Friendship, email troop55286@gmail.com. Thanks again, neighbors for your support!
