Hello Neighbors, Below is an update from PWSA on the construction activities taking place at the Highland I Reservoir. Unfortunately the project faced delays to the Covid-19 so the walkway around the reservoir won't reopen until sometime in September. I know it's frustrating - please keep in mind that everyone is frustrated and doing the best that they can. The HPCC is interested in planning some type of reopening event that allows for social distancing. Please send any thoughts or suggestions that you might have! Stephanie Walsh HPCC President *Restoration of Parapet Wall* The remaining construction activities at the Highland I Reservoir have progressed throughout the summer. Our contractor, Arch Masonry is completing the remaining items needed to finish the reservoir wall and railing. They are also waiting for the delivery of bollards that will be installed within the pathway of the existing bollards, along the entryway leading up to the reservoir from Reservoir Drive. The installation will begin as soon as those arrive. The bollards are a security measure that will protect this drinking water source by helping to prevent unauthorized vehicles from driving up to the Highland I Reservoir. It is required by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and as a condition of our permit, must be installed before we can reopen the walkway to the public. Once the bollards are installed, PWSA’s contractor will remove the fencing and the City of Pittsburgh will pave the walkway. Based on the expected bollard delivery date, this work is expected to take place in September. Once the paving is completed the walkway will reopen. *Bollards along Reservoir Drive* Later this fall, Arch Masonry will improve the concrete bases of the bollards that were installed along Reservoir Drive last year. They will install a porous rubber pavement that follows the path of the bollards from the edge of Reservoir Drive to slightly beyond their placement in the lawn. The bollards will be centered within the path and the porous rubber pavement will completely cover the existing concrete bollard bases. It will also minimize the need for any lawn maintenance around the bollards. This solution was approved by the City of Pittsburgh. *Highland Park Pump Station and Rising Main* Mott MacDonald, the design engineer for the Highland Park Pump Station and Rising Main is completing the 90 percent design drawings. We will review those documents upon completion. We anticipate starting construction next year. More information will be shared with the community as we get closer to finalizing the design and confirming the construction schedule.
