Its mission is to support local and international charities while providing a fun-filled community event. Over the past eight years, Untucked has raised more than $80,000 for charities such as Neighborhood Academy, Best of the Batch Foundation, Gilda’ s Club, and Global Links while featuring concerts by well-known bands including The Clarks, Better Than Ezra, Sister Hazel, State Radio and Arrested Development. The Untucked students have worked tirelessly this year to fundraise, plan and publicize the carnival and concert. They also have spent time volunteering with Nepali refugees in Pittsburgh. Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Pittsburgh and Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh are this year’s beneficiaries of Untucked. These organizations both have branches that provide resettlement services to refugees escaping persecution in their homeland. These services are provided to those outside the United States who have been granted refugee status by the Department of Homeland Security/U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service and brought to the United States for resettlement, as well as those already in the United States who have been granted asylum.
