The Great Three Hours of Good Friday will be observed at St. Andrew's Church beginning at 12 noon with the traditional devotion of the Stations of the Cross. This year a number of the 14 stations are expanded with literary and fine arts contributions prepared by members of our congregation. In the Second Hour, beginning at 1 p.m., we will follow the Liturgy for Good Friday from the Book of Common Prayer. The service includes hymns and a choral ensemble, the reading of the Passion Gospel according to St. John, and a Good Friday meditation by our ordinand and ministry assistant, Mr. Dan Isadore. In the Third Hour, beginning at 2 p.m., St. Andrew's Parish Choir will present a service of music for Good Friday, featuring the first and third pieces of Francois Couperin's Leçons de ténèbres pour le mercredi saint (1714). They will be sung by Gabriela Pascale Schunn and Georgeanna Robinson. A most difficult, beautiful, and unusual work⎯perfect for these two brilliant sopranos. The remainder of the hour will be the Chorales from the St. Matthew Passion of J.S. Bach. At 3 p.m. the Great Bell of St. Andrew's Church will toll 33 times, to mark the traditional number of years in our Lord's earthly life. All are welcome, and we are reminded that Nursery Care for infants and younger children will be available in the Nursery, upstairs in the Parish House, from 11:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. 5801 Hampton Street www.standrewspgh.org
