[Highland Park] School Board Forum CANCELLED! (Other news, too)
SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES FORUM CANCELLED The School Board District 2 Candidates Forum originally scheduled for Wednesday has been CANCELLED because neither of the candidates can make it. I apologize for the late notice; I just found out about it today. SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES INVITED TO HPCC MEETING Bruce Robison, Program Committee chairperson for the Highland Park Community Club, has invited Patrick Dowd and Darlene Harris to the Community Club meeting on Thursday. Their presence has not yet been confirmed. They would be asked to speak for 10 minutes each on the topic, "Why I want to serve as School Board Director." There would be no questions from the floor or debate during the meeting. When I find out for sure whether they will be there, I'll send another update. MITCH KATES REMINDER Mitch Kates invites us all to join him at Enrico's Tazza d'Oro on Saturday from 10:00 am to noon. It would be great if folks left there afterward to help with the other projects in the neighborhood on Saturday; please check the Highland Park Community Calendar for details: <http://www.highlandparkpa.com/calendar/> Mitch's campaign contact details: Phone: 412-661-5373 Web site: <http://www.mitchkates.com/> PATRICK DOWD AROUND TOWN Patrick and several candidates from other school board districts will speak Tuesday at Pittsburgh Brewing Company beginning at 7:00 pm: <http://www.pump.org/happenings.htm> Patrick will be on Lynn Cullen's radio show Thursday on WPTT-AM 1360 at 11:00 am: <http://www.1360wptt.com/cullen/> Patrick's campaign contact details: Email: <gloria@percolater.com> Web site: <http://www.dowdforschoolboard.com/> SOME POLITICAL SIGNS MAY VIOLATE CITY ZONING CODE Several large campaign signs have popped up in our neighborhood that, according to current Pittsburgh Zoning Code, would be legal in industrial or highway commercial district areas, but not in a residential district such as ours. Those interested in the details are invited to pour through the zoning code; the city has thoughtfully put it on-line: <http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/cp/assets/pittsburgh_zoning_code.pdf> It's a large file containing 442 pages. The relevant section is 919.03.F.2, on page 343. Rudy
