Re: [Highland Park] Burglary on Callowhill
Ugh! It scares me to hear that this occurred during the day. I really hope your valuables are recovered and the thieves are apprehended. I'd like to pass along to everyone things that I've noticed while driving thru our neighbourhood. Surely burglars notice these things too as they plan for their next victim: Homes in the evening that are completely dark Homes in the evening that are completely dark and windows are left open Ladders left outside (which can be used to gain access to your or your neighbour's home) Mail overflowing in mailboxes To me, little things like these just seem to say "pick me!" to a burglar. (Especially if other homes around appear to be occupied at the time.) In a message dated 9/20/2007 9:20:56 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, kelvicious@gmail.com writes: Hello Neighbors! Our house on Callowhill was broken into yesterday (we were at work all day and no one saw anything, so it's difficult to pin down the time). They used wood from a neighbor's construction work to climb up to our second floor and get in through an open window. Most of the items they took can be replaced (laptop, stereos, xbox, camera, ipod, dvd's, etc.), but they also stole several pieces of heirloom jewelry, and my boyfriend's passport and social security card. The police and crime investigators were very helpful, but it is still important to keep your eyes open and windows locked, even if you think the windows are not easily accessible!!! And, of course, if you see anyone running around the neighborhood with pillowcases full of stereo equipment (yes, they took a few pillowcases to make off with their haul), feel free to call the police and email me :) Thank you!
