Hi Future Neighbors! (I hope!) My husband, son, and I are hoping to move to Pittsburgh, from Brooklyn, in early summer 2011. And, if we are lucky, we will make Highland Park our neighborhood. Since my son will turn 4 in Feb, Fall 2011 should be his Pre-K year (or at least that's true here in NYC) So I need to start gathering information on Highland Park area school options. Our preference is to send him to Pittsburgh Public Schools, and I understand you have some wonderful schools and magnet schools there. Can anyone tell me about a Pre-K school, (or elementary school) that they love? Is it in the neighborhood? Do most Highland Park kids go to a neighborhood school, or do people seem to prefer magnet, or private, schools? is it fairly easy to get into a public Pre-K class, or should I expect waiting lists, or lotteries? When approximately are the deadlines for applications? Are there any schools I really should avoid? I am really just starting my research, so any and all information will be much appreciated, and nothing is too basic for me :) Also, while my dream is to live in Highland Park, there are a couple schools outside that area that have been mentioned to me as well. Does anyone know anything about Linden Street School (Point Breeze) or the Environmental Charter School at Frick Park (Regent Square) (maybe these schools don't even offer Pre-K, but I am still curious) Thank you in advance!!
