The aggressive insects are wool carder bees (Anthidium manicatum). They do not represent a threat of any kind, so they will become part of the ecosystem in my back yard. I'll just swat them away when they hover in front of me. They're just guarding their food source. Thanks to everyone who responded! Janna Eversmeyer
