Victim came to Zone 5 and reported that her loaner vehicle had been stolen the previous day. The vehicle is a 2018 white Ford Focus (PA dealer plate K47146K), on loan from Day Automotive. Victim stated that she went into the One-Stop Shop to buy food and play the lottery, leaving the car running and unlocked. When she returned, the vehicle was gone. (145734) 7/30/18 Aggravated Assault - 7900 block Tacoma Street, 8:46 PM. Officers responded to a report of an unconscious male and arrived to find a shirtless male victim on the ground, bleeding from the head. Officers observed a brick laying on the ground nearby. Officers began to render aid and called for paramedics. A witness who stopped by the scene told officers that he saw a young male strike the victim in the head with the brick. The suspect is a black male, 14-18 years old, 5'7," 140 Lbs. The male was on a bicycle and fled the scene after the assault. The victim was taken to UPMC Presbyterian for treatment. (145947) 7/31/18 Theft from Vehicle - 900 block N. Homewood Avenue, 11:50 AM. Victim is a delivery driver and was dropping items off at the Homewood One-Stop Shop. While inside the store, a witness informed the victim that someone was stealing items from his truck. The victim found that a box containing (30) cartons of cigarettes had been stolen. (146321) 8/4/18 Stolen Vehicle - 7300 block Frankstown Avenue. A 2011 glacier blue Yamaha Raider 1900 motorcycle (PA plate 1962J) was stolen. (149624) 8/5/18 Fatal Overdose - 7300 block Kelly Street, 9:20 AM. Officers responded to a report of a 41 year-old male down and arrived to find paramedics on scene. Medics pronounced the male dead shortly after arriving at the scene. The victim's girlfriend indicated that he was known to use heroin on occasion and a neighbor came over and attempted to administer Narcan unsuccessfully, prior to EMS arrival. (149874) 8/5/18 Overdose - Frankstown Avenue & Sterrett Street, 1:50 PM. Officers responded to a 62 year-old male who overdosed on heroin. Firefighters were first on scene and administered Narcan, reviving the male. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian for further treatment. (149990) Larimer / Lincoln-Lemington 8/2/18 Burglary - 1000 block Larimer Avenue. Victim returned home to find forced entry to her rear door. The house was in disarray and a laptop was missing. (148096) 8/3/18 Burglary - 1200 block Paulson Avenue. Victim arrived home to find the cords to his XBox hanging out of his living room window. He found his front door ajar and his house ransacked. An XBox appears to be the only thing taken. (148542) Bloomfield / Garfield / Friendship 7/29/18 Theft from Vehicle - 300 block S. Millvale Avenue. A pink wallet containing credit cards was stolen from an unlocked vehicle overnight. (145909) 7/30/18 Theft from Vehicle - 5400 block Broad Street, 3:30 AM. Victim told officers that he happened to be looking out his window when he saw an unknown male open the driver's side door of his vehicle. The victim went outside to confront the male, at which point he saw the suspect was trying to enter his neighbor's car. The victim yelled at the suspect, who ran away. The suspect is a black male, dark complexion, unknown age, 5'6", 170 Lbs. (145562) 7/30/18 Burglary - 5300 block Mossfield Street, 3:15 PM. Officers responded to a burglary-in-progress and arrived to find the homeowner's son at the scene and the back window shattered. Items inside the home were disturbed but it was not known what, if anything, had been stolen. (145723) 7/31/18 Theft from Vehicle - 300 block S. Pacific Avenue. Victim's vehicle was ransacked and change was stolen. No signs of forced entry. (146299) 7/31/18 Stolen Vehicle - 300 block S. Aiken Avenue. Victim reported that his 2009 dark blue Kia Spectra (PA plate KST-7094) was stolen overnight. (146441) 7/31/18 Stolen Vehicle - 5300 block Penn Avenue, 12:20 PM. Victim was working at a job site nearby and returned to find his 2008 blue Dodge Ram pick-up truck had been stolen. Officer Sullivan was able to retrieve surveillance camera footage from a nearby camera that showed (3) black males, approximately 15 years old, dressed in basketball shorts and t-shirts, enter the vehicle and drive off. A few hours later, Officer Sullivan was on her way to another call when she passed the stolen truck on Mossfield Street. When she turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle, the (3) males jumped out and fled on foot. Several officers converged on the area and all of the young men were soon in custody. The driver was identified as a juvenile male, 15, of Garfield, and he was arrested. The 15 and 16-year old occupants were released to their parents. (146340) 8/3/18 Shots Fired - 5000 block Cypress Street, 9:54 AM. Officers responded to multiple reports of a male chasing after another male while shooting at him. Responding units converged in the area and spoke with several witnesses who stated that they saw a black male in a white tank top and red shorts chasing after a white male, firing a gun at the male as he pursued him. Witnesses indicated that the pair ran towards South Winebiddle on Cypress Street. Officers checked the surrounding streets for nearly an hour as well as all nearby hospitals and never located the suspect or any shooting victim. One neighbor on Cypress Street did sustain bullet damage to their home but thankfully nobody inside was injured. Detectives are reviewing city camera footage in an effort to investigate exactly what transpired. (148434) 8/4/18 Theft from Vehicle - 200 block Edmond Street. A wallet and a men's Invicta watch were stolen from a vehicle overnight. No signs of forced entry. (149224) 8/4/18 Theft from Vehicle - 200 block Roup Street. A spare key was stolen from an unlocked vehicle overnight. The car itself was not taken. (149196) 8/4/18 Robbery - 5200 block Penn Avenue, 5:15 AM. A 22 year-old victim reported that she was walking to work when she was approached by a group of (5) black males and (1) white female. The group demanded money from her, then knocked her to the ground and assaulted her before fleeing with her cell phone and credit cards. The female sustained minor injuries in the assault. A neighbor who witnessed the attack called 911 and stayed with the victim until police arrived on scene. (149103) East Liberty / Highland Park 7/30/18 Theft from Vehicle - 800 block N. Sheridan Avenue. Victim reported that his cell phone was stolen from his unlocked vehicle overnight. (145473) 8/1/18 Theft from Vehicle - 5800 block Rippey Street, 3:51 AM. Victim awoke this morning to find that someone entered her unlocked car overnight and stole a small amount of cash. Security camera footage showed (3) black males, ages 15-18, pulling on door handles of cars on the street. The males entered the victims vehicle and fled with the money. (146867) 8/2/18 Theft from Vehicle - 100 block S. Highland Avenue, 1:04 AM. A security guard witnessed two suspects inside the victim's black Honda. The two males fled upon seeing the guard. The owner of the vehicle was located and indicated that nothing had been taken. (147506) 8/3/18 Stolen Vehicle - 600 block Chislett Street. A 2018 gray Jeep Compass (PA plate KDM-6696) was stolen overnight. (148377) Morningside / Stanton Heights / Waterworks 8/3/18 Theft from Vehicle - 4200 block Coleridge Street. Victim found his vehicle ransacked and his credit cards missing. No sign of forced entry. (148479) 8/4/18 Burglary - 6900 block Greenwood Street. Victim is in the process of moving and is not currently staying at the residence. She arrived to find that someone entered the home and stole a TV and (2) window A/C units. Victim believes her ex-boyfriend committed the burglary based upon a conversation the two had a short time before the crime. The vehicle was in the system as stolen and Allen was also wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Wilkinsburg. He was arrested and the vehicle was returned to its owner. (145480) 7/30/18 5:39 PM Frankstown Avenue & Enterprise Street Arrestee: Shakihya Ruffin, 20, of Larimer Summary: Officers conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation and found that one of the occupants, Shakihya Ruffin, was wanted for robbing the WesBanco Bank on Lowrie Street in the Northside on 7/27/18. Officers took her into custody without incident. (143437) 8/2/18 5:20 PM Frankstown Avenue & Brushton Avenue Arrestee: Juvenile male, 14, of Knoxville (Pittsburgh) Summary: Officers were on patrol along Kelly Street when they noticed a male on foot chasing after a dark blue Chevrolet Cruze. As the Chevy passed the officers, they observed that the driver appeared far too young to drive. The officers quickly turned around and ran the license plate, which confirmed the vehicle was stolen. Officers turned on their lights and siren to stop the vehicle but it immediately turned the corner and wrecked into a parked car. Three teens jumped from the vehicle and ran away but were soon apprehended by responding officers who converged on the scene. The driver of the stolen car was 14 years-old. He was placed under arrest. Shuman Center would not admit the juvenile to their facility so he was returned to his mother after processing.
