[Highland Park] Public Kickoff Meeting - Aug. 21st - East Liberty Circulation and Mobility Program
From the East Liberty Development Corp:
*You're invited to the East Liberty Circulation and Mobility public kickoff meeting on August 21st, 2013 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM at the East Liberty Carnegie Library. This meeting is regarding the East Liberty Circulation and Mobility Program moving forward.* *The 2010 East Liberty Community Plan<http://www.eastliberty.org/sites/default/files/plan/files/Community%20Plan%20Screen.pdf> calls for pedestrian, bicycle, transit, vehicular, and parking improvements, and the 2012 East Liberty Circulation and Mobility Vision<http://www.eastliberty.org/sites/default/files/study/files/EL%20Circulation%20and%20Mobility%20Vision.pdf> lays out specific community values and goals relating to these needs as a holistic program.* *With the City of Pittsburgh's Move PGH <http://planpgh.com/movepgh/purpose> plan nearly complete (as a guiding circulation and mobility plan for the City as a whole), and with our Circulation and Mobility Vision now complete, the East Liberty community is ready to turn Vision into Action. The Community Plan and Vision processes revealed that our community valued walkability/accessibility and parking strategies as first priority for several reasons: people walking or parking in East Liberty are coming to the district as opposed to potentially just traveling through it; every mode of transportation utilized in East Liberty begins and ends as a pedestrian; and parking and walking issues need hyper-local strategies (while biking, transit, and signalization/driving will need collective East End strategies at a minimum). * *The first step to turning a Vision into Action is with a participatory planning process. With the walking and parking prioritization in mind, money was raised from The Richard King Mellon Foundation, Pittsburgh Partnership for Neighborhood Development, and The Roy A. Hunt Foundation to fund an East Liberty Parking Study process. Dollars have also been raised from The Allegheny County Health Department and Pittsburgh Partnership for Neighborhood Development to fund an East Liberty Walkability and Accessibility Study process. We will introduce these participatory processes and the consultants at the kickoff meeting on the 21st, and explain how you can stay involved with follow-up pedestrian-specific and parking-specific community meetings. The goal of these processes will be to define the neighborhood's parking and walking existing conditions, explore our future needs, and outline potential comprehensive strategies to meet these needs - All the while receiving input from you, the community. Moving forward, an East Liberty Parking Committee and an East Liberty Pedestrian Committee (comprised of a diverse mix of driven community members and stakeholders) will ideally form out of these processes to help outline specific recommendations for the district, and assist in seeing these recommendations through to implementation from an advocacy standpoint. * *Please join us for the kickoff of the East Liberty Circulation and Mobility Program's Vision to Action on August 21st - Your voice can help create accessible streets for everyone!* -- Dave Atkinson My new email addres is: *datkinsonpgh@gmail.com*
