After twenty years living in the East End (Give it up for Jackson Street and Rippey Street!) our family relocated to Mercer County PA. At Singing Wren Farm <http://www.singingwren.farm> our heritage American Guinea Hogs live on pasture all year long. Living in family groups, they have space to run, wallow, and root. It is time to prepare to harvest and we have three whole hogs for sale as well as pints of rendered leaf lard available. If you are interested in filling your freezer with best tasting pork you have ever experienced call us at 412.361.4842. American Guinea Hogs are a small lard type hog that was traditionally kept throughout the southern U.S. With the advent of commercial hog farming the AGH fell out of fashion. They are a small hog, topping out at 250-300 lbs. They have a easy temperament and are excellent mothers. They subsist primarily on grass and hay with a small amount of grain daily and vegetable and garden scraps. The resulting meat is well marbled with a succulent fat cap. It is definitely not the other "white meat" but rather has a rich taste akin to steak. As a result of living out of doors their meat is rich in vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids. We do not purchase organic feed but the bulk of their diet is grass from our pasture. We do not spray any herbicides or pesticides the field and we use rotational grazing methods to increase fertility. When you purchase a hog from us we will deliver it to a butcher and you select the cuts you want allowing you to get exactly what you want whether that is sausage, bone-in chops, tenderloin, hams, bacon, etc... We look forward to hearing from you. Grow Well, Nicole Carlin www.singingwren.farm 412.361.4842
