The City of Pittsburgh will help you challenge your County property reassessment. If you call 311, you can schedule a free one-on-one appointment with a City representative (mine was with a Duquesne law student from their law clinic) who will help you fill out your appeal form -- they will have a blank one for you -- and provide alternate comparables to the ones used for your reassessment. You can get a low-cost appraisal, subsidized by the City, that will cost you $125. And you can request an advocate to go to your appeal hearing for or with you. That person will meet you one half hour before your hearing is scheduled -- if you choose to go -- to discuss the strategy for your appeal. pat buddemeyer
