Two of our friends have recently been affected by phone scams. The calls came to elderly family members. A male said this is "your grandson". He sounded frantic and said that he had had a car accident and was given a breathalyzer, which he failed. He was in jail and this was his only phone call. He needed (anywhere from) $2900.00 -$4200.00 to be sent via Western Union or Money Gram at Walmart. He said that he did not want his parents to know. Sadly,in one case, the grandmother did send the money. Understandably, both families were quite upset. With a minute of online research, we found that this is a common scam (there are variations on it, too) which has been reported all over the US for years. Please be wary and let others know. * *
