[Highland Park] Article Published
The current (Summer 2009) issue of Western Pennsylvania History magazine, published by the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, includes an article I wrote entitled Petroleum Pioneers (pages 6-9). The timing is great, because the historic landmark event commemorating Samuel Kier's pioneering effort in refining crude oil will take place at the History Center on Wednesday August 26. Of particular interest in that celebration will be a talk on Charles Lockhart, another petroleum pioneer, who built the first commercial oil refinery, right here in Highland Park, and whose mansion was on North Highland Avenue where the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary now stands. If anyone needs more information on the landmark event, please get in touch with me. Al Mann, 412-661-5947, alfred.mann@verizon.net.
