The Dawn Redwood and Bald Cypress are very similar trees, and are easily confused. There is even a youtube video on how to tell them apart. My partner janet picked up some branches for me, and I observed that the leaves and leaflets are "alternate" rather that "opposite." This means that the trees are definitely Bald Cypresses, which is what the residents of that area always believed them to be. It also makes sense because the houses there were built in the 1920s, and I suspect the trees were planted at that time. The Dawn Redwood was only rediscovered in the 1940s. Thanks to everyone who responded to my inquiry. Check out these beautiful trees before all the needles are gone. Richard Krepski
