[Highland Park] Maritza Mosquera Immigrant Body: in transition
Highland Park resident and artist Maritza Mosquera's Immigrant Body: in translation opens on Saturday June 5 and runs until June 26th at Artist Image Resource on the North Side. (518 Foreland Street. 412.321.8664) June 9th is hosted by Education Innovations, Inc. Immigrant Body: in translation presents voices of an American community through collaborations, dialogues and installations. It brings people together to share individual stories of immigration and emigration within and outside the United States. Dialogues: Homebody: are informal community dialogues about where we come from. They take place at Artists Image Resource on Wednesdays from 7 - 9 pm. June 9 hosted by Latin American Cultural Union and Education Innovations, Inc. June 16 hosted by Hill House Association and Latin American Cultural Union Collaborations: Gatherings to capture stories and images were organized on individual basis and with assistance from Aliquippa Alliance for Unity and Development, Hill House Association, LEDP at Liberty Elementary School, The Jewish American Museum of Pittsburgh, Latin American Cultural Union, Education Innovations and other community groups. Come view the exhibition, share a light snack and take part in the installation as it furthers its collection of our stories of immigration or emigration to the United States, Western Pennsylvania, and Pittsburgh. Artists Image Resource is funded by the PA Council on the Arts, the Allegheny Regional Asset District, the Heinz Endowment, the Pittsburgh Foundation, an Anonymous Pittsburgh donor, and individual contributors. Maritza Mosquera is a painter and installation artist, born in Quito, Ecuador, now residing in (Highland Park) Pittsburgh, PA. She uses listening as a practice in all her work including art, activism, parenting, education programming and Re-evaluation Counseling.
