I visited Art Kishiyama from Olio Nuevo, located in Paso Robles. I also visited Kathleen Elliot from Hillcrest Ranch, located in Sunol. These were very different operations. Kathleen operates a very small farm that has 130 year old trees. The farm has been in her family since the early 1900s. The farm is on top of a mountain in a beautiful setting. She is a passionate person and it is clear that she is very connected to her family farm. She only produces a few hundred gallons a year. It is certified Organic, and is very special stuff.Art Kishiyama operates a relatively new farm, as the trees were planted in 2003. He is an engineer by background and is very into all the latest technology to monitor moisture, temperature, etc. in the growing and milling process. His Reserve Blend oil recently won a Gold Medal Award from the California Olive Oil Council. Both oils are 2011 vintage. They are both certified Extra Virgin by the California Olive Oil Council.I will have them for sale at the market starting this Saturday. Please come and give them a taste. Of course we always provide free tastes. Bring your own clean bottle or we sell reusable bottles for $2.The weather reports for the weekend are looking good, so please come out and stop in the market, visit your neighbors and check out the offerings of all of our farmers and vendors.Bike RackPlease note that we now have one of those cool circular bike racks installed in front of the building. So bike on in! Special thanks to Christine Berger from the Mayor's office and Emily Keebler from Patrick Dowd's office who made this happen!David Lagnese********************************************************* Please visit the market's website for information on the market and all the vendors.
