[Highland Park] Responses to "Kindle or Nook?"
The jury is still out for me. I received lots of responses and I thank all of those that did respond. I had hoped to discover the underlying reason for choice in the head to head battle, but obviously, it comes down to personal preference. Or, the best scenario, received it as a gift! As you will see in the following replies, Kindle owners were the ones, hands down, who replied. I have to surmise that the majority of respondents on this list, truly love their Kindle, and took a few moments to express this. If there are any Nook owners out there, it would be great to hear from you and your reasons for choosing the Nook. And the one person who answered with the Sony e-reader... Thank you too, it's on sale this week at Best Buy for $149 Desperately trying to not fall into BetaMax/VHS trap Thanks Again! d. ---------------------------- I love my Kindle. Best feature is the ability to download 2 chapters of the book for free to see if you like it! also the selection can't be beet with amazon. ---------------------------- I love my Kindle. About half of this is from the device itself. Light, easy on the eyes, readable in bright sunlight. (But the display is not back-lit. You need a clip-on light if you want to read in the dark). The other half is the ease of sampling and buying books. You can read the first chapter of any Kindle book for free. Purchasing is a one-click operation, with immediate download. During lunch recently, I sampled three books and purchased two. I've purchased books to read on a flight while sitting on the airplane while boarding.
From playing with both, my sense is that the Nook hardware is a bit ahead of the Kindle, but the overall Kindle user experience is much better (set-up, sampling, purchasing). I also appreciate that the Kindle app runs on PC, iPhone, and iPad. If I choose to purchase an iPad, I can read my Kindle library there.
A note of warning - the e-Ink display (Kindle and Nook) does not handle tables or graphics well. Navigation is a bit clunky. The e-readers are great for novels, but I still buy most non-fiction (e.g., technical books) in print. ---------------------------- I have not tried any of these yet, but I have used many kind of phones which seem to be very similar. I like the Android experience much better than most any other. I believe they will also make the best tablets http://www.androidcentral.com/android-powered-ereader-kindle<http://www.androidcentral.com/android-powered-ereader-kindle> ----------------------------- I don't have either of those. I have the Sony Reader (not the touch one). It's very nice, easy to use, the Sony e-Reader store has a big selection and they are in the process of hooking up with Libraries. The Sony one is nice also because you can download your music from an existing library into you reader so its pretty nice. Any of them are great I like mine just fine. -------------------------------------- I got a Kindle as a gift and LOVE it! ----------------------------------- i have heard good things about the nook, but then it's just someone else's opinion. i don't know anyone who owns an e-reader. if u buy me one, i'll let u know how i like it. ---------------------------------- I don't know much about the Nook but love my Kindle ---------------------------------- my daughter (17) took one to europe with us over spring break and had a great time. she only had books on the device and i think she had about 25 both required reading for school and fun reading. She totally enjoyed it and had no trouble finding places to recharge in the airports in spain and germany (they had recharging stations for all sorts of electronic devices. Lots of people stopped to ask about her preferences for the kindle - it was a conversation starter in several airports. -------------------------------------- I did lots of research, and purchased the Kindle, and love it. I have received lots of free downloads, books that I loved reading. The most expensive book is $9.00, but I have yet to purchase a book for even that. It has features that I love cause it reads to you also, for most downloads. My best friend purchased the Nook, and has had lots of problems with it, and I have had no problems with mine. She is on her third one cause hers keep freezing. Mine has not given me an ounce of trouble and I have had it since Christmas. Thanks for your input. It would be interesting to see if your girlfriends Nook runs better after this current software upgrade to 1.3. Have her look. I saw there was a link on the Barnes and Noble website to get the download just this past week. lemme know what she thinks. Thanks! d. I will let you know. She might already have the upgrade for the new one she just traded last week, and she only bought hers about one month ago. I will let you know. The nook does not read to you, which was important to me, for it is hard for me to read at night after I use an eye drop that I need to use before bed. The Kindle does. ------------------------------------------- I have had a kindle for almost a year and would love to answer any questions you may have. I cannot imagine life without now.
